In the assigned article Do I Own My Domain If You Name It? By Andrew Rikard, he explores the importance of having an appropriate audience for your personal domain. With schools assigning blog posts more frequently, it’s important we understand who is reading our work.
Education is expanding as the system begins to accept that technology can help a students’ success. Classes are talking about personal websites and how they can help drive your future. With each student on a different path, the students’ goals of the domain will each differ as well. But we aren’t necessarily taught how to reach out to our targeted audience. Students are assigned blog posts for homework, but how do you get the public to view your writing? Rikard states, “I’m not arguing against putting class assignments online, but the assignments must be framed by a conversation about audience and the way the ‘domain’ represents the author to that audience” (Pg. 2). The author is talking about how we represent ourselves to the audience through our blog posts. We can write what we choose, but we need to have a specific audience we are targeting. The Interdisciplinary course is educating me on who I can specifically target with my blog posts, as well as how to do that. This is vital to my success.

Check the title of the article!! I think Rikard is interested not only in who your audience is, but also whether it's possible for you to write for a "real" public audience when your teacher is in the middle with the gradebook. What do you think?
